New Restaurants in the Hamptons
A new Italian restaurant is opening soon (hopefully by May 23 but call to confirm) at 203 Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike called Arthur & Sons. Launched by Joe Isidori, a Michelin star chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author, his new spot will be an homage in both menu and design to his experience growing up in New York’s restaurant industry. “The restaurant will feature a rustic vibe, with a 90’s hip hop edge and a menu that transports guests back to the 1990’s with “old school” Italian American red sauce classics,” according to a press release.
Diners will find “old school” New York Italian American classics and appetizers such as meatballs with ricotta, Caesar salad, fried calamari, baked clams oreganata and sausage & peppers with shaved provolone with prices ranging from $17-$28. Entrees range from $29-$45 with highlights including spicy rigatoni alla vodka, chicken parmigiana, shrimp scampi, spaghetti carbonara and veal marsala.
House Specialties will pay tribute to the real classics such as Old School Sunday Gravy, Chicken Alla Vodka, Eggplant Parmigiana and Rigatoni alla Norma “Al Forno.” Classic Italian desserts offer a perfect end to the meal with “Spumoni My Way.”
I for one can’t wait!
In East Hampton, where Rowdy Hall used to reside, a new French restaurant opened called Village Bistro at 10 Main Street. With a French/American menu of familiar dishes like onion soup and steak frites, it should prove a handy stop before a movie down the street.
In Sag Harbor, Sag Harbor Tavern will be opened at 26 Bay Street by the group that owns Red Hook Tavern in Brooklyn, hoping to serve up dishes like a squid ink tagliatelle, as well as whole grilled branzino, spicy tuna crudo, North Fork oysters and local fluke crudo…and burgers.
In Montauk, a new restaurant called N’AMO, will feature a raw seafood bar and local seafood. It is scheduled to open May 24.
According to their press release: “We pride ourselves on seafood sourced both locally and from the finest waters worldwide, ensuring that every dish not only tastes extraordinary but also honors the environment,” the announcement continues, adding, “Our ‘Catch of the Day’ invites diners to explore the ocean’s endless flavors, presented with minimalistic preparation to showcase the ingredients’ true essence.'”
A feast for the eyes as well as the stomach, N’AMO’s bar will offer a seafood display on ice featuring the greatest oysters, whole fishes, and other gifts from the sea in a sophisticated but laid back atmosphere.
MEANWHILE, I stopped at Sen in Sag Harbor last night for a quick bite with my friend Phoebe before going to Sag Harbor Cinema to see Woody Allen’s movie, Coup de Chance. Having lived in France for so long I yearned to see food and villages. Instead, it felt more like it was an American movie (although it was in French with subtitles), it moved quite slowly, and ended with a bump.
So was that a recommendation to go see it? Not really, however it is a recommendation to definitely get to know the Sag Harbor Cinema, which has been coming up with a steady stream of really interesting movies. Then, before or after, you can enjoy a drink on their rooftop bar and chat with other movie lovers, which is always fun on a warm night.
Before we went to the movie we met for a very early snack/dinner at Sen. Phoebe had a Dragon roll, I had this amazingly delicious little bun with soft-shell crab, and we both had their Lychee Martinis.
Soooooo….on the cookbook front, my new cookbook, French From The Market is getting a lot of attention, which makes me happy! And my new new new cookbook coming out in the Fall, Sauce Up Your Boards!…is being sent to the printer as we speak. Now I am trying to think of the next cookbook I would like to write….any ideas or suggestions?
Until then….talk soon!!! Hillary
